"AWAKENING" Press Release
Vibrant Visions of Modern Master - Raphael Labro
"AWAKENING" Exhibition at the prestigious Cottoner Hall, Mediterranean Conference Centre. A stone’s throw away from The Grand Harbour of Valletta. The Awakening Exhibition will be inaugurated by Prof Guido de Marco, President Emeritus of the Republic of Malta, Former President of the United Nations Assembly.
Labro's latest neolithic works tell of a future that is Here & Now. We exist within having recently become aware of the changes going on around us. "AWAKENING" touches on the experiences of inner emotion into crystal clear focus.
.
“Yogi Goddess” a figure of spiritual bliss within the Hypogeum and “Tellus III” emerges in stages. Her eyes express great knowledge, spiritual understanding and growing awareness. The colours of her face blend with all the colours of earth and the universe. Both are symbols of wisdom as old as creation and show the Goddess “Awakening” from her sleep after 25,000 years of hibernation. These vibrant works show us the beauty that resides within us, and creates harmony with the ultimate passage of what was, what is, and what will be from the Great Awakening of “Tellus”, Mother Earth.
A special highlight of the exhibition is Labro’s masterpiece ”Meditating Goddess”, which was honoured with the Special President Award (Eloquence of the Female Figure) at the 7th Malta International (105 Nations) Art Biennale in August 2007. Here we see the Goddess Being, serene in thought, the perfect symbol of a fertile Mother Earth, bringing a future that is echoed in the neolithic temples of Malta, where the landscape blazes with sumptuous hues of reds and blues, highlighting the burning gold and graceful colours of Hagar Qim.
Each painting offers an unforgettable journey that transcends the past into the future to experience what Labro calls "The Awakening of The Earth Goddess." "Nurturing our planet earth and recognising that future generations will also need air and water" Labro explains. "Today’s people necessitate a life in sync with nature”. Labro considers awareness of the planet and mankind to think logically about how to ensure the next generation will survive. Reforesting the land, in order to encourage the water cycle."
Exhibition to fund the charity: "Reforestis Project": the planting of trees with Maltese & Gozitan school children, and holiday-making children in green areas.
