In the 90's, pioneer Labro had combined his futuristic fantasy to create "DIGITAL EXPRESSIONISM", and pushed the digital revolution to a new limit. "A marriage between technology and art, a coupling of the spark of imagination and the power of innovation. Digital Expressionism is communication in it's purest form, the link between artistic heritage and an on-line vision of tomorrow." Labro 1991
"Raphael Labro the foremost Modern Neo Expressionist of the 90's from "l'Ecole de Nice" like the great Cezanne." Jean-Louis Varro 1992
End 80's, Labro is though more interested in pure artistic expression than in his bread and butter fashion photography and continues exhibiting and creating art works between his busy schedule. Photography is his main medium during his 20 years of photographic career but he creates art photography in unconventional ways.
Pushing technological limits using custom lenses with prisms and mirrors or ignoring "good practice" photography by taking pictures under extreme conditions like the full moon light he is the "enfant terrible" of photography but obtains corporate backings being one of the few photographers sponsored by AGFA Gevaert and Apple Inc.
He embraces the digital revolution in the 90's which will transform photography in later years with a series of solo exhibitions "Ozone #9", "Visions Across the Universe" and "Transmutation" using photography and computer manipulation.
Raphael Labro is the Pioneer of digital photography. He started working on the first scanner with Agfa in 1989 where he started to develop the scanner and digital printing. At the time there was a revolution in photography as it was moving from analogue to digital. Since then he has exhibited his digital photography in Sydney, Melbourne, Tokyo, Osaka, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taipei and London.
In 1991 he started creating Digital Expressionism where he combined art and experimenting with this medium to reach new limits by exploring and pushing the boundaries. The expressionists in the 20th century distorted reality to express an underlying emotion still perceiving the origin but not its detail. Likewise, in Digital Expressionism Labro distorts reality to bring out the emotion through his digital art thus creating something new and original all the time.
